If you require a tooth extraction, your dentist will carry out a thorough clinical and radiographic assessment and discuss the procedure with you beforehand.
All other alternatives to extraction will be discussed with you as well as tooth replacement options. In cases where more specialist care is required, your dentist may refer you to an oral surgeon.
You will be given information on how best prepare for the extraction at your consultation. Please ensure that you do not take any vitamin C for at least 24 hours before the procedure, as it may inhibit the local anaesthetic. At Anokhi Dental, we use an adrenaline-free local anaesthetic.
If you are anxious about your procedure, please discuss this with your dentist.
When a tooth is extracted, the socket will be cleaned out in order to remove the periodontal ligament (a connective tissue ligament that anchors a tooth into the jawbone) and any unhealthy bone. You may require stitches and a follow up appointment. This is usually arranged for one week’s time. Our staff will contact you the day after the extraction to ensure that you are comfortable. You will also be given advice on postoperative care and a contact number for your dentist in case of an out-of-hours emergency.
